Class 124 In a stone-saw comprising single or multiple endless-chain saws of which the tension is adjustable, the non-cutting side of each chain in the region of the cut slides along the bottom of a guide plate which is parallel to the line joining the centres of running pulleys and which can be tensioned by means independent of said pulleys. As shown in Fig. 1, a saw comprises a number of chains each passing over four pulleys 2 which can be moved vertically by spindle drives 6, and tensioned by pulleys 11 and 12 loaded by weights 13. The chains each run along the bottom of a guide plate 17 which is tensioned by means of a wedge 23 inserted between a support 21 abutting on to a transverse beam 10, and the end of a buckle 19 attached to the guide plate. When only two running pulleys are used, as shown in Fig. 6, two guide plates are employed, the upper of which may be forced upwards by wedges 33 to increase the tension of the chains, as shown ; alternatively the two plates may be in contact with each other over an inclined plane and made to slide relatively to each other to tighten the chain ; such a saw may also be used as a bow saw.
