Abstract
704,568. Mixing appliances. EXCELSIOR MOTOR CO., Ltd. Oct. 24, 1952 [Oct. 24, 1951], No. 24807/51. Class 86 Lubricating oil and fuel are mixed in the fuel tank of an engine by subjecting the imperfeotly mixed oil and fuel to a current of air introduced below the level of the surface of the mixture so as to produce a bubbling which aids dispersion of the oil in the fuel. In a motor cycle fuel tank a length of pipe 15, sealed at the end 17 and having spaced orifices 16 is disposed along the bottom of the tank in the same vertical plane as the filler cap 14 and is connected by an imperforate pipe 18 to an inlet fitting 19 having a nozzle 20 adapted to be connected to a source of compressed air. If the device is to be used with a valveless tyre inflating pump the inlet fitting 19 is provided with a non return valve. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a cylindrical fuel tank of the kind employed for engines of industrial plant or for appliances such as mowing machines is provided with a horizontal length of perforated piping parallel to the tank axis in the base portion of the tank, connected to an inlet fitting in the highest point of the tank diametrically opposite the base portion. The fuel tank may have fitted thereto or may incorporate its own air pump provided with a manually operable handle. The inlet fitting may be positioned below the normal level of fuel, in which case a valve, . e.g. a spring pressed ball valve, is provided to prevent egress of fuel through the pipe The active length of the pipe may be flattened to cover a substantial surface area in the base of the tank.
