Abstract

703,874. Bulldozers. RUSTON-BUCYRUS. Ltd. Oct. 9, 1951 [Nov. 24, 1950], No. 23462/51. Class 68(1) A bulldozer comprises a blade 3 supported by the forward ends of push arms 1, 2 which are universally mounted at 6, 7 on a tractor or the like, the push arm 1 being rigid and rigidly connected to the blade, whilst the push arm 2 comprises segments 2a, 2b connected by a transverse pivot joint 21 rigidly supported on, and to the rear of, the blade adjacent the forward end of the push arm 2, the forward end of the segment 2b comprising a bracket 24 connected to a vertical double-acting screw jack 25, or like extensible and retractable means, mounted on the blade adjacent the pivot 21, whereby operation of the jack will tilt the blade about a generally fore-and-aft skew axis A-B. The push arm 1 may comprise a bolted butt joint 47 to facilitate dis-assembly. The blade 3 comprises a mouldboard 10, digging edge 11, side plates 12, 13 and angle irons 14, 15, is braced by braces 19, 20, 22 and 23, and is raised and lowered by cables 16. The bracket 24 may have bifurcated arms straddling the brace 23. The universal joints 6; 7 permit limited rotation of the push arms about their longitudinal axes, as well as a slight outward shifting of their rear ends, when the blade is tilted. The jack 25 comprises a rod 33 which screws into a nut 30 captive within a sleeve 28 and rotated by a wrench 35 with a handle 36 associated with retainers 37. In one modification, Fig. 8, (not shown) the jack is replaced by a double-acting cylinder-piston assembly, and the bracket on the forward end of the rear segment rests within a channel-section front segment fitted with wear plates. In another modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the cylinder-piston assembly is mounted horizontally on the lower angle-iron and actuates the bracket through a bell-crank.
