Abstract
703,508. Piezo-electric crystals. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 14, 1951 [Nov. 17, 1950], No. 24653/51. Divided out of 703,480, [Group XXXVIII]. Class 40 (8). Apparatus for launching ultrasonic waves in a medium includes a slab 1 of piezo-electric material divided by grooves to form a series of discrete elements with means for applying potentials to these discrete elements. As shown the slab, which may be of quartz or a barium titanate ceramic, is divided by grooves on both sides and provided with electrode coatings on the portions of the surface a, b, c, d, e, and f left between the grooves. Alternatively only one side of the slab may be grooved and the electrodes may be disposed within the grooves and on the sides thereof.
