Class 117 In an apparatus for cleaning and sorting seeds the seeds are fed from a funnel 1 through an opening 4 controlled by an adjustable member 5 to a dust sieve 6 fixed in the reciprocating sieve box 7, the dust passing into a box 8. A fan 11 blows air through a further sieve 15, a fine mesh sieve 20 allowing air to pass through but causing particles carried by the air stream to fall down the inclined plane 21 to the outlet 19. The seed passes to a sieve 22, which is cleaned by vibrating elements 23, large seed being carried to the exit 24, and seed which passes through to the sieve 25 being cleaned by brushes 26 and moved to the exit 27 where it may be discharged at 50 by operation of a valve 49 or transferred via a shoot 48 to the rotating sorting drum 36. The frame 32 for the brushes is slidable on rails 31 in the sieve box 7 and is carried by a rod 33 pivoted to the machine frame at 34. The drum 36 contains a trough 37 and reciprocates in opposition to the movement of the sieve box, the drum being supported on a shaft 38 which is secured at one end to a lever 39 pivoted to the machine frame, and at the other end to a double-armed lever 40 pivoted at 41 to the machine frame, and connected to a link 42 which is pivotally connected to the sieve box. The other end of the sieve box is supported by springy members 54. An eccentric 44 through the rod 30 reciprocates the sieve box, and through the levers 42, 40 reciprocates the drum 36, the masses of the sleve box and sorting drum being so arranged that vibration on the machine frame is minimized. Material falling into the trough 37 due to the rotation of the drum is passed to the exit 45, and material remaining in the drum passes along to the exit 46.
