Abstract

702,676. Lathe &c. tool-holders. BIRMING- HAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd. June 6, 1952 [March 6, 1951; Aug. 14, 1951], Nos. 5350/51 and 19085/51. Class 83 (3) A tool-holder for lathes and other machine tools comprises a body having a forwardly extending nose portion forming a support for the tool bit whose upper surface is inclined, and a member constituting a wedge longitudinally slid'able on the body and having a forwardly extending nose, the lower surface of which co-operates with the upper inclined surface of the bit, the nose of the body being provided with transverse serrations to engage with corresponding serrations on the lower surface of the bit. The body 1 has a nose 21 having a flat tool-seating surface 3 downwardly inclined from the nose and provided on its upper face with a longitudinal open-ended channel portion 4. An upper part 7 is longitudinally slidable within the channel portion with which it makes a tongue and groove connection 9, 8. The forward end of the part 7 has an inclined portion 10 to engage in wedge action with the upper surface of a tool-bit 12, Figs. 1 and 4. Wedge action of the upper part 7 is effected by a screw 6. The bit 12 may be serrated on its lower face to engage similar serrations on the nose 2 and an elongated hole 17 may be provided therein to engage a key 16, Fig. 2, on the supporting surface.
