Abstract

702,634. Crutches. LAYTON, D. A. Dec. 4, 1952 [Feb. 20, 1952], No. 4513/52. Class 81(2) A crutch comprises a support member 1 having one end bent over for the reception of an armpit rest 3 and has a handgrip member 7 the distance of which from the armpit rest 3 may be adjusted. A number of diametrically opposed holes 5 are provided in the support member 1. The handgrip member 7 is secured in any one pair of holes 5 by a screw 6 so that it is disposed either parallel to and beneath the armpit rest 3 or on the opposite side of the support 1. The handgrip member 7 is formed from a casting covered by a rubber handgrip 9. The support may alternatively consist of two telescopically arranged tubes (not shown), the outer one of which is bent to receive the armpit rest, diametrically opposed holes being provided in both parts for receiving a handgrip member the fixing of which secures the parts together.
