Abstract
<PICT:0702434/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0702434/IV(c)/2> <PICT:0702434/IV(c)/3> <PICT:0702434/IV(c)/4> <PICT:0702434/IV(c)/5> Articles, such as stockings, are draw over forms and remain in these forms throughout successive operations of boiling-out, dying, sizing and finishing, each operation being followed by rinsing and the process being completed by hydro-extraction and drying. Stockings are mounted on forms 1, Fig. 1, with an offset portion 1a against which the seams rest, the form being mounted on a plate 2 having hooks 3a, 3b which engage in holes in a frame 4, Fig. 6. An end-plate 5 prevents damage to the stockings and the frames 4 are mounted on a trolley 6 with recessed wheels 8, Fig. 7. Two trolleys 6 are wheeled into a vat 10, Figs. 9 and 10, on rails 7 mounted on a perforated base plate 13, a further perforated plate 12 acting as a ceiling. After the door 11 has been closed and clamped, very hot hard or soft water is fed in through pipes 31 or 32 and when the vat is half full a circulating pump 17 is put into operation. Live steam is fed through pipe 22 to raise the temperature to boiling point, the escape valve 34 being closed. After 5 minutes, the live steam is stopped and pressure allowed to drop to atmospheric, boiling-out substance then being fed into the vat from tank 18, circulation continuing for a further 10 minutes. In order to carry out a rinsing operation, the valve 16 is opened and tepid water is fed in through pipe 32. Valve 16 is closed and soap introduced from tank 18 and circulation continues for ten minutes to complete the boiling-out process. The vat is partially drained and soft water admitted together with dye from tank 18, the dyebath being heated by steam in coil 23. The escape 34 is closed to raise the pressure and test pieces 28 are observed to determine the amount of dyeing. When satisfactory, heating is stopped and the vat emptied and water admitted through pipes 31 or 32 and circulates for 10 minutes or so. The finishing material is introduced from tank 18 and soaking continues for 10 minutes. The heating in coil 23 is then stopped and the vat drained. All valves are then closed and a vacuum pump connected to pipe 33 operated to remove surplus water, heating by pipe 23 aiding the process. The door 11 is subsequently opened and a hot-air fan positioned opposite the opening to dry the stockings or the frames can be removed to a separate drier.
