Abstract
701,609. Glass. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., WYNNE, H. C., and COUSEN, F. June 10, 1952 [June 12, 1951], No. 13954/51. Class 56 A ribbon of opaque glass is made by flowing a molten slow-setting glass 9 from a furnace 1 on to a table 11, the glass passing to the table beneath a roller 6 and above a second roller 7 which has intersecting grooves on its surface. Intersecting ribs of a thread-like nature are thus formed on the reverse surface of the ribbon. The grooves in the roller 7 are formed in such a way as to produce ribs about .03 ins. to .06 ins. with the faces of the ribs being divergent at an angle from about 90 degrees to 135 degrees and with the ratio of the total surface of the reverse face of the ribbon to that of the top face being approximately between 1.1:1 and 1.4:1.
