Abstract

Mono-adducts of organic polyisocyanates with secondary aromatic amines in which there is only one group containing hydrogen reactive with an isocyanate group are used as cross-linking agents for diisocyanate-modified polyesters and polyesteramides. Specified adducts are those resulting from the reaction of equimolecular proportions of, on the one hand, 4:41-diphenylene, 1-methyl-2:4-phenylene, 1:5-naphthylene or hexamethylene diisocyanates, and, on the other hand, diphenylamine or phenyl-b -naphthylamine. Additional reactants are listed. Specifications 694,978 and 694,982 are referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises mono-adducts of an organic polyisocyanate and a secondary aromatic amine in which there is only one group containing hydrogen reactive with an isocyanate group, and the preparation thereof by reaction of approximately equimolecular amounts of the two components. The products possess the probable general formula <FORM:0701548/IV(b)/1> wherein R and R1 represent aromatic radicals (which may be joined together) and R11 represents an organic radical containing at least one -NCO group. Examples describe the reaction of 4:41-diphenylene diisocyanate with (1) phenyl-b -naphthylamine and (2) diphenylamine. Other starting materials specified are: di-o-, m- and p-tolylamine, N-phenyl-toluidines and -xylidines, phenyl-a -naphthylamine, carbazole, and 2:21-dinitro- and 2:21-dichloro-diphenylamine; ethylene, trimethylene, tetramethylene, pentamethylene, hexamethylene, propylene-1:2, butylene-1:2, -2:3 and -1:3, ethylidene, butylidene, cyclopentylene-1:3, cyclohexylene-1:4 and -1:2, m- and p-phenylene, 1:5- and 1:4-naphthylene, 4:41-diphenylenemethane,1-methyl-2:4-phenylene, 3:31-dimethyland 3:31 - dimethoxy - 4:41 - diphenylene, 2:5 - dimethylphenylene - 1:4, 4:41 - diphenyl ether and dichlorodiphenylene diisocyanates, 4:41:411-triisocyanatotriphenylmethane, 1:3:5 - triisocyanatobenzene, 2:4:6 - triisocyanatotoluene and 4:41-dimethyldiphenylmethane 2:21:5:51-tetraisocyanate.
