Class 39 (3) [Also in Group VII] An apparatus for heating the bottoms of lasted shoes comprises two assemblies A, A<SP>1</SP> pivoted together so that their inclination can be manually adjusted to the angular relationship between the waist and forepart portions of different shoe bottoms. The assemblies comprise heating sections P, Q, Fig. 9, and worksupporting sections R, S respectively, pivoted together at 19, 21. The heating sections comprise electrically heated thermostat controlled metal plates 23, 25, 27 and 45, 47, 49 secured to frames 29, 51 respectively and the work-supports comprise wires 41, 57 secured to frames 37, 53. The assembly A is fixed to a base 11. Bolts 71 secured to the frame 51 frictionally engage slots 73, 75 in side walls 13, 15 to allow the position of the assembly A' to be adjusted by movement of a bar 91 acting through bars 85, 86 and links 97, 99, 105, 107 connected respectively to frames 29, 51, 37, 53. The distance between the work-support and the heating sections can be varied since the pivots 21 are movable in slots 87 of the bars 85, 86. This is effected at any angular position of the assemblies by a handle 135 acting through a bar 129 and arm 127 and toggle links 117, 119 and 109, 111, the pivots 113, 121 of which are connected by a link 125. A shoe 147 is placed with its waist on the wires 41 and the assembly A<SP>1</SP> is adjusted so that the wires 57 engage the forepart. If it is desired to leave the shoes in position, damage can be prevented by raising the supports 41, 57 by the handle 135.
