699,776. Preparing microscope specimens. TECHNICON CHEMICAL CO., Inc. June 21, 1951 [Aug. 29, 1950 ; Dec. 6, 1950], No. 14738/51. Class 97 (i). A clearing agent for use in the preparation of histological tissue for microscopic examination consists of a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon liquid and of carbon tetrachloride in mixture with a chlorinated naphthalene liquid at atmospheric temperature or with n-butyl acetate. The chlorinated hydrocarbon may be ethylene dichloride, ethylene trichloride, trichloropropane or other chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon having good solvent properties for fats and waxes. The mixture may be in the proportions of 20 to 30 per cent by volume of the chlorinated naphthalene, 60 to 40 per cent of 'the chlorinated hydrocarbon and from 20 to 30 per cent of carbon tetrachloride. Alterna. tively the mixture may be 50 per cent -n-butyl acetate, 37.5 per cent of ethylene dichloride and 12.5 per cent of carbon tetrachloride.
