Abstract

699,552. Ice-making. NEILSON, R. J. Sept. 25, 1952 [Oct. 8, 1951], No. 23347/51. Class 29. Apparatus for making edible frozen articles comprises a number of open-ended tubular vertical moulds 11, a closure member 14 operable to seal or expose the lower ends of the moulds, and a top plate 18 provided with displacement cylinders 19 adapted to be lowered into the moulds. The spaced moulds 11 are mounted in a casing 10 to which refrigerating fluid is supplied so as to circulate around the moulds. The lower ends of the moulds are normally closed by a rubber pad 14 carried by the hinged bottom plate 15 operated by a handle 16 and held in closed position by a swing bolt 17. The moulds are tapered, with the smaller diameter at the top. The top plate 18 with the depending displacement cylinders 19 is first arranged so that the displacement cylinders project into moulds as shown, the moulds are then filled with syrup &c. and the top plate raised until the cylinders 19 are clear of the moulds, allowing for the increase of volume on freezing. The cylinders 19 also hold sticks to be frozen in the sweetmeats. After freezing a thawing fluid is circulated through the casing 10 and the plate 15 swung downwardly to allow the frozen articles to drop on to a receiving tray.
