698,538. Automatic exchange systems. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 25, 1952 [March 28, 1951], No. 7649/52. Class 40 (iv). [Also in Group XL (c)] A more rapid operation of a relay T connected in the output circuit of a valve B1 is obtained by connecting an inductor L in series with the relay and with the output of a second valve B2, the control electrode of the second valve being coupled to an output of the first whereby when the first is rendered conductive the second is cut off. The back E.M.F. of the inductor opposes that of the relay coil and thus prevents the drop in anode voltage of the first valve that would otherwise occur. The circuit shown is used in the register of an automatic telephone system to interrupt the rotation of a selector K when the voltage comparator OI indicates that the voltage from the selector is equal to that from a marking switch MS controlled by the subscriber. When the equality occurs valve B1 is cut off and contact T breaks the circuit of the motor D of the selector. Momentary interruption of the anode current of valve B2 causes the relay to release but it is rapidly restored when current again flows, due to the action of valve B2 fed from the screen of valve B1.
