698,004. Photographic reflex cameras; exposure meters. ZEISS IKON AKT.-GES. June 14, 1951 [June 17, 1950], No. 14125/51. Class 98 (i). [Also in Group XL (b)] A reflex camera including a built-in photoelectric exposure meter and an optical system, preferably comprising a reversing prism and a viewing lens, arranged above a focusing screen to form a view-finder, is characterized in that pointers connected to the exposure meter, the diaphragm setting, and the shutter speed are disposed in a space between the camera focusing screen and the view-finding optical system within the normal accommodation of a viewing eye so as to be visible in the said view-finder. As shown, a reflex camera body 2 is provided with a photo-electric cell 16 having an adjustable diaphragm 15. Within the body is mounted as a unit 1 a viewing system comprising a plano-convex field lens 3 having its plane face ground to serve as a focusing screen, a pentagonal roof prism 4, and an eyepiece 5. Either the plane face or preferably the convex face of the lens 3 is provided with camera objec. tive diaphragm and shutter speed scales and a datum mark with which co-operate respectively the tips of levers 7, 8 and the needle 6, Fig. 5 (not shown), of an electric meter operated by the photo-cell, the tips of all three pointers being located between the lens 3 and the prism 4. The aperture to be used during exposure is selected by means (not shown) which also alters the opening of the diaphragm 15. The camera objective diaphragm aperture may be adjusted by means of the pre-selection device described in Specification 698,001. This selection in turn rotates a sleeve 14 carrying a cam 13 which is followed by a lug 12 on an arm 10 secured to a pivot 9 to which also is secured the lever 7. The exposure time is then adjusted so that the lever 8 is rotated and a lever 26 pivoted at 27 and engaging the nose of a lever 22 pivoted at 23 is rotated by means of a cranked rod 17 which engages a projection 21 on the lever 22 and which is itself rotated by the lever 8, so that a gear segment 29 on the lever 26 rotates the electric meter bodily until its needle is aligned with the datum mark.
