Abstract
697,787. Automatic feed weighers. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T. May 15, 1951 [Feb. 15, 1950], No. 3810/50. Class 143. In an automatic feed weigher the weighing receptacle is supported from an automatic dial indicating counter-balancing mechanism. Material is fed from a hopper 10 down a vibrating shoot 11 into the receptacle 13 which is supported on one end of a weigh beam 15, the other end of which is connected by a rod 18 and a lever 20, with the rod 23 of an automatic dial indicating counterbalancing mechanism 24 which may have either a spring or a pendulous resistant. The lever 20 also carries a U-bracket 25 fitted with adjustable abutment members 26, 27 which, when the bracket moves downwardly, successively operate a pair of switches 35 (one only being shown in Fig. 2) through a pair of pivoted arms 31 and a pair of double armed trigger catches 33, to effect first a dribble feed by reducing the frequency and/or amplitude of the vibrations of shoot 11, and finally cut off by open circuiting the vibrator 12. Simultaneously with cut off, solenoid 36 is energized and, through a pair of bell cranks 39, 41 and 43, 45, unlatches a catch 47 and allows the discharge door 48 to open under the weight of the charge; after discharge the door is closed again by a counterweight 49. Upward movement of the empty receptacle causes abutment members 28 on the bracket 25 to raise arms 31 which, through trigger catches 33, operate the switches 35 and so restart the weighing cycle. Whilst the door 48 is open, an extension arm 50 of bell crank arm 39 further open circuits the vibrator by operating a switch 51; this arm 50 also operates a counter 53. A hand lever 58 is provided to release a guide plate 57 to allow it to pivot to the right and so permit material to flow freely through the apparatus in the event of electrical or mechanical failure. A manual control 55 is provided to vary the frequency and/or amplitude of the vibrations of shoot 11 to suit different materials, and a switch 56 is provided to stop the feed at any point in the weighing cycle.
