Abstract
696,065. Automatic regulation. SOC. ELECTROM. March 8, 1950 [March 10, 1949], No. 5868/50. Class 38 (iv). [Also in Group XXXVII] In a regulating system in which the armature of a carbon pile regulator is energized by a vibrating contact regulator, two alternative carbon pile regulators are disclosed. In the first, Fig. 1, the pile is compressed by a spring 4 acting on a lever 5 connected to the pile compression member 38. Lever 5 is also connected to the armature 12 of the operating coil 7 so that as the coil is energized, the pile opens. The upper end of the pile is connected to a pivoted lever 43, which, by a spring 47, applies an initial compression to the pile to compensate for shrinkage. A damping dashpot 54 is provided. In the second embodiment, Fig. 10, the pile is compressed by the armature 12 of the operating coil 19 through a spherical thrust-bearing, Fig. 11 (not shown), against the tension of a decomposition spring 20. The upper end of the pile is connected to a pivoted lever 5 which by a spring 100 applies an initial compression to the pile to compensate for shrinkage. A damping dashpot 107 is provided.
