REGULATOR FOR vrcrnoLAs.
Application filed April 19, 1923. Serial No. 633,261.
This invention has reference generally to improvements in regulating devices and more particularly relates to a regulator for a victrola.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a regulating device in tended for use in localities where there is a variation of current in the main supply cirwit the device being adapted for connection with a victrola so that the variation of the current will not effect the operation of the device.
The invention comprises briefly the pro vision of a regulating device employing an electromagnetic means adapted to be interposed in the main electrical supply circuit and operably connected with a centrifugal governor the latter being in turn connected with the main operating motor and the turn table of the device.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide means for adjusting the electromagnetic mean so that'the ratio of speed of the motor and the shaft of the turn table may be altered to suit the required condi:
tion.
acteristicv features and scope of the invention Wlll be more readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which the figure represents a plan looking towards the under side of the turn table support, the electrical circuits being shown diagrammatically.
Referring now, more particularly to the accompanyingdrawings, there is provided a support A beneath the turn table of the device on which is mounted a motor B the latter being interposed in the main electrical supply circuit C and operably connected with a centrifugal governor D as by a belt and pulley arrangement E. An electromagnetic device generally indicated by the letter F is also interposed in themain electrical supply circuit by conducting wires H and operably connected with the governor D by a braking device I so that when there is a variationin the main supply circuit C the electromagnetic device will act against the current supply of the mam electric circuit and operate the braking device and as Other objects, as well as the nature, char-' this is connected with the centrifugal gov- The details of construction of the braking device and the electro-magnetic device which act on the centrifugal regulator are as fo"lows:
The ends of a yoke 2, rest on disk 1 of the centrifugal regulator provided with small friction sponges. preferably two made of l ather or felt. A lever'at is provided for carrying the yoke at one end while this lever is pivoted medially of its'end at the point on a 'ransverse bar which forms part of the supporting box of the mechanism. 011 the other end of this lever 4 there is a slider which "an move'alongside of the lever whose definiteposition is fixed by a screw 7.. This slider 6 supports by means of a bolt 8, a cast iron armature 9. Bracket 10 supports, around armature 9 (fixed at the base), a magnetic solenoid 11 in whose interior slides armature 9. Bracket 10 has a groove 12 which'enables it to move it, parallel to armature 9, by means of an outside handle 14. 'This magnetic coil is worked either by direct or alternatingcurrent, with a derivation of the circuit, taken by the extremes of the motor thus remaining in a parallel position. The operation is the following:
A potential variation in thenetting tends to produce a variation inspeed in the motor, but at the same time it alters the magnetic tension of arn'iature ,9 influencing the pressure that lever 4i exerts on the centrifugal regulator 1 and altering therefore the load of the motor. Thisresult can be perfectly compensated by adjusting the definite position of slider 6. l
By moving bracket 10 from the outside, parallel to armature 9, owing to the groove 19', the variations of spontaneous speed that sometimes are needed, can beobtained because the strength of the armature9 changes with this movement. In order-that a blow or any other causeniay not take armature 9 out of the roll 11, a limiting stop 13, is
placed at the left of lever 4:.
It is believed in 'view of the foregoing that a, further detailed description of the of the device and the motor constant regardless ol current variations in the supply circuit, said electro-ma-gnetic means including a slidabiy and swingably mounted bracket, a solenoid carried by the bracket, an armature slidable in the solenoid, and a pivotally mounted lever pivotaliy and adjustably mounted in the armature and operatively connected to the braking means, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination, a main supply circuit, a motor interposed in the circuit, a speed responsive device, electromagnetic means in said circuit acting in response to current variations, means for adjusting the electromagnetic means including a manually operable screw adjustably and swivelly con nected with said electromagnetic means, and braking means operated by the electromagnetic means and acting on the speed responsive device to maintain the speed of the motor constant regardless of current variations in the supply circuit.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
DR. JOSE DUCCI.
