Abstract

695,917. Bowden mechanism for operating clutches. HOSKINS, J. B. July 26, 1951, No. 17732/51. Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii). [Also in Group XXXI] In a clutch control mechanism for motorcycles, automobiles and like road vehicles of the kind in which release and engagement of the drive is effected by a Bowden cable, a spring 12 and washers 13, 14 are interposed between the end 15 of the sheath 16 of the cable remote from the point of control and a part 10 of the engine casing through which the cable 8 passes to the clutch actuating lever 7. The clutch 5 of a motor-cycle (Fig. 1) is released by a push rod 6 connected to the lever arm 7. The washer 13 is welded to the post 10 and the washer 14 is floating and abuts the stud 15. In a clutch control mechanism for an automobile (Fig. 2) a clutch pedal is attached to a lever 17 pivoted at 18 to a crank 19 which is pivotally mounted at 20. A cable 22 is attached to the lever 19 at 21 and passes through two plates 23, 24 fixed to the frame of the automobile. The nipple 25 on the other end of the cable engages in a seating in a crank 26 which pivots about a fulcrum 27. A spring 28 is mounted about the cable 22 between washers 29, 30, the latter being welded to the plate 24. The crank 26 is mounted at 34 for sliding movement adjacent the end of the clutch lever connection 35 mounted on a splined clutch-actuating shaft 36.
