Abstract

695,136. Spinning yarns. MEIMBERG, J. Nov. 20. 1950 [Nov. 23, 1949], No. 28287/50. Class 120(ii) [Also in Group XXV] Fibrous material is spun by collecting fibres from a source of supply by a collecting device mounted on a rotating carrier and carrying out, in addition to the rotation imparted by the carrier, an individual motion relative to the carrier; the fibres are then supplied by the collecting device in a direction perpendicular to the spun yarn to a spinning position where they are formed into a spun yarn to which rotation is imparted by the rotation of the carrier so that the spun yarn is continously withdrawn at a speed equal to that of the collecting device relative to the carrier. The apparatus shown, Fig. 1, comprises a disc 9 rotating about the axis of the spun yarn and carrying drums 12, 14, 15 geared together and rotating relative to disc 9 in the directions shown. Disc 9 rotates in the same direction as drums 14,15, and a needle band 24 passing around drums 12, 14, 15 and guide drums 20, 21 travels slowly forward relative to disc 9 so that fibres, removed by band 24 from a source of supply 26, are fed to the spinning point at the centre of the disc where, by virtue of the rotation of the disc, they are twisted to form a yarn which is removed through a stationary guide tube 27 and can be forwarded for continuous processing or supplied directly to a knitting machine or the like. A covered yarn may be produced by making the shaft of drum 12 hollow for the supply to the spinning point of a yarn to be covered. Two or more discs as shown rotating in the same direction, may be mounted so as to precess about a common axis and receive fibres from a plurality of supply devices arranged adjacent their path of rotation, the spun yarns withdrawn from the several discs being thereby doubled together on passing through a guide located on the common axis. In an alternative apparatus, Fig. 3, the disc 28 carries a rubber-covered drum 30 and a slotted drum 29 through which project the pins 32 of an eccentrically mounted drum 31; these pins withdraw fibres from a supply, as disc 28 rotates, convey them to the point of contact with drum 30, and release them at the central spinning position.
