Abstract
695,107. Froth flotation. WESTFALIA DINNENDAHL GROPPEL AKT.-GES., and SCHAFER, W. June 15, 1949, No. 15954/49. Class 82(ii) A froth flotation apparatus consists of several agitating cells in series, and is especially suitable for preparing fine coal (1-10 m.m.) by a process consisting of floating the fine coal in a series of suspensions, the densities of which lie between 0.05 and 0.3 below the specific gravity of the clean coal. Each cell of the series may have a suspension of progressively higher density than that preceding it. The apparatus has cells A each containing an agitator B sucking air through a tube surrounding the agitator shaft, the agitator being closed towards the top except for the air supply to the tube. The bottoms of the cells form a trough beneath the agitators, a screw conveyer C working therein to transport the refuse. Adjacent cells are connected by slits to equalize the pulp levels in the cells and by slits D to allow the passage of pulp. The froth from each cell may be removed by a scraping chain. The last cell in the series may have a bucket elevator G to remove the refuse fed thereto by the screw conveyer. Flotation media are supplied through openings J.
