Abstract

474,325. Wet separating. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F. Dec. 12, 1936, No. 34209. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1935. [Class 82 (ii)] Bulk material, such as coal or ores, is separated within a substantially horizontal current of heavy liquid flowing approximately at the same velocity throughout, the current entraining the material remaining in suspension and allowing it to be recovered separately after removal of the floating and sinking portions ; the current may be produced by scrapers sweeping the bottom, and if desired, the sides, of the separating vessel and also the surface of the liquid, and moving at approximately the speed of the current. A rectangular trough 1 has endless conveyers 3, 4, moving along the bottom and the surface, and at the same speed as the heavy liquid 2 ; the scrapers of the conveyer 3 may extend up the sides of the trough. The liquid is introduced at a, b, c, d, e, to give a uniform low speed, and is guided by curved plates 5. The material to be treated is supplied through tube 7 to a hopper 6 leading to a rectangular downwardly expanding tube 8 as wide as the trough. Light particles are discharged over a screen 9 by the conveyer 4, while the heavy particles sink at different distances from the tube 8, according to their specific gravity, and are removed by the conveyer 3 to one or more slots 10, 14, 18. From slot 10, the material falls past shield plates 13 to a vessel 11 from which it is removed by a conveyer. Material from the slot 14 is washed by an upward current of a lighter liquid, such as water from a pipe 16, and is collected in a vessel 15. Material from the slot 18 passes to a vessel 19 with a controlled opening 20. Material suspended in the liquid in the trough is caught by a screen 21 and removed by the conveyer 3, while the liquid passes out through tube 22 and is returned to the trough. The height of the outlet of the tube 8 is varied according to the material treated.
