694,654. Collapsable tubes. BRYNOLF, G. J. H., and BULLIMORE, L. A. W. Nov. 13, 1951 [Nov. 13, 1950], No. 27668/50. Class 66. A device for dispensing the contents of collapsable tubes comprises means for supporting the tube with the nozzle exposed, a pressuredistributing plate lying along substantially the full length of the tube and means for applying pressure to the plate to expel the tube contents consisting of an eccentrically pivoted cam roller. The means for supporting the tube may comprise two side plates 14 at right angles to a back supporting member 11 and end plate 12. The back plate is provided at its upper end with a hole for screwing to the wall and inclines forward down the greater part of its length before curving away, as shown, at the bottom to rest against the wall. The end plate is slotted to receive the neck of the tube. Brackets may be provided externally on the side plates to support, for example, toothbrushes. The pressure-distributing plate 25 is made to present a flat surface to the tube over the greater part of its length but is curved away at its lower end in the opposite direction to the back plate so as to contain the end of an almost completely expelled tube as shown in Fig. 13. Pressure is applied by a cam roller 29 working against a number of strengthening ribs on the back of the plate 25. The roller is made semi-circular and is supported by eccentrically mounted pins 30 resting in slotted grooves 17 in the side plates 14. Depression of the operating arm 31 rotates the cam, urging the pressure plate against the tube and extruding the contents. To avoid the use of a large cam roller the slots are provided with three bearing surfaces 17 at progressively decreasing distances from the back plate in which the roller pivot pins can work and the roller is released to its furthermost position from the plate and then moved forward and downwards twice during the emptying of a tube.
