Abstract
Liquids especially sugar solutions are decolourized or otherwise purified by filtration through a column of granular bone black in which the bone black is mixed with a minor proportion of powdered vegetable active carbon. The quantity of powdered active carbon, which may be that sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Norit," is from 2-6 per cent by weight of the bone black and is introduced by making an aqueous suspension and spreading this over the bone black, or by suspending the powdered carbon in a diluted or normal clarified solution of the substance whose solution is to be decolourized or otherwise purified. To prevent the powdered carbon from being carried away with the liquid two or more filters may be connected one behind the other, or one-third of the carbon may be left without admixture. The powdered carbon is rinsed from the bone black during regeneration.ALSO:Liquids especially sugar solutions are decolourised or otherwise purified by filtration through a column of granular bone black in which the bone black is mixed with a minor proportion of powdered vegetable active carbon.
