The interior walls of a telephone mouthpiece are unglazed and porous so that they may be impregnated with antiseptic fluid, the outside however being glazed. The walls may be of ceramic, and the mouth- and ear-pieces constructed so that they may be removed periodically, heat-sterilized and re-impregnated.
