Abstract

A slip of acid-leached finely divided powder of refractory metal, e.g. molybdenum or tungsten, is cast onto a former or into a mould and the liquid is removed, e.g. by using a porous former or mould, to leave a casting which is then dried, removed from the former or mould, further dried and then sintered. The slip is preferably slightly acidulated, e.g. by using residual acid from the acid leaching process which may be performed in stages, using relatively strong acid at first followed by successive repetitions each time using weaker acid; e.g. 10 per cent. (vol/vol) hydrochloric acid at first, followed successively by 5 per cent., 2 1/2 per cent., 1 per cent. hydrochloric acid.
