Abstract

693,989. Determining physical quantities. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. Dec. 5, 1950 [Dec. 6, 1949], No. 29789/50. Class 37. [Also in Groups XL (b) and XL (c)] A relay is arranged to reverse its contacts at each of two values of a physical quantity by connecting it in a circuit substantially as shown, comprising a resistance 3 sensitive to the physical quantity. The quantity may be of ionization, heat, moisture, pressure, electromagnetic or mechanical waves, chemical action or corpuscular rays. If the value of resistance 3 decreases sufficiently capacitor 5 charges to such voltage that a gas tube 7 fires and a pulse of current then flows from the capacitor to change over the relay. Contact 10 of the relay now connects to the other side of the D.C. source 1, 2 and if the value of resistance 3 increases sufficiently the voltage across tube 14 will cause it to fire and a pulse of current will flow from capacitor 12 to restore the relay. The difference between the changeover values is determined by resistor 13. Further contacts of the relay may operate a signalling circuit.
