Abstract

693,578. Facsimile telegraphy. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Sept. 18, 1950 [Sept. 17, 1949], No. 22829/50. Class 40 (iii). In a facsimile system separate portions of a subject to be transmitted are scanned at different times at separated scanning positions. In the arrangement described for reproducing on a tape the addresses on business cards, the latter are fed in succession from a pile or stack to a conveyer belt, Fig. 3 (not shown). As the address occupies solely one half the length of the card, the cards are placed in overlapped relation on the conveyer belt which feeds them to the scanning device, as described in Specifications 693,576 and 693,577. A rotating scanning drum 10 is formed with two sets of helically cut slots 15, 16 and at the first scanning position an objective 19 and mirror 20 project a transverse area of the card on to an apertured member 17 so that the first and third lines of the address are in register with respective sets of slots 15, 16. At the second scanning position, an objective 21 and mirror 22 are arranged to produce an image of an area of the card with the second and fourth lines of the address in register with the two sets of slots 15, 16. An apertured member 18 is provided at the second scanning position. Photo-cells 25, 26 and 27, 28 co-operate with the sets of slots 15, 16 at the first and second scanning positions. The outputs of the cells are fed simultaneously through amplifiers, such as 29, to four electromagnetic units 30, 32, 33, 34 operating printer bars 31, 35, 36, 37 associated with separate helical ridges on a rotating cylinder 11. A recording tape and a strip of carbon paper are fed between the printer bars and the cylinder 11, the loop of recording tape between the two printing positions being adjusted to correspond to the spacing between the two scanning positions. Specification 690,164 also is referred to.
