Abstract

1,165,749. Distorting apparatus; optical fibres. XEROX CORP. Nov. 7, 1966 [Nov. 8, 1965 (2)], No. 49759/66. Headings G2A, G2H and G2J. A process for distorting a graphic representation on a document 1 comprises imaging parallel adjacent linear elements extending across the width of the document as a family of adjacent continuous curves on a recording surface 2. In the apparatus shown, the document is scanned line by line through a slit 5, each line being imaged as a continuous curve by optical fibres 6 on to the surface 2 (a photo-sensitive surface or a xerographic plate) which moves in synchronism with the document 1. In another embodiment Fig. 4, (not shown) the document (21) is stationary and an appropriately sized array of fibres (20) is provided to image the document. The input end of the fibres is rectangular in outline, and the output is arranged in continuous similar curves, each input row corresponding to a different curve. The processed distorted copy may be read by placing it in the position occupied by the recording surface and viewing it through the appropriate fibre arrangement.
