Abstract
693,227. Gas turbine; jet propulsion plant. SZYDLOWSKI, J. July 11, 1950 [July 12, 1949], No. 17387/50. Class 110(iii) A plant comprising a turbine, a compressor and a ducted fan on the same shaft, the fan feeding the compressor and a by-pass to the jet, is provided with blades 14b disposed in the duct upstream of the fan. The blades 14b are controlled by members 24, 25, 26, 27 acting on gearing 17b, 16b. The member 27 may be hand controlled or operated by a piston 29 which is connected to the auxiliary motor of an automatic regulator. Control of the blades may be effected in conjunction with a fuel regulator responsive to the speed of the turbine shaft. As shown, fuel supplied by a pump 42 is controlled by a rotary valve 44 which adjusts the output towards the valve 45 of a centrifugal regulator 47. An adjustable screw 48 controls the flow of idling fuel which by-passes the regulator. A lever 50 directly controls the valve 44 and controls the tachometric regulator at 46 and the blades through cams 51, 52 respectively. Control of the blades may be effected in conjunction with a variable pitch propeller or one or more variable factors such as atmospheric pressure, ambient temperature or the temperature of the combustion chamber.
