Abstract
693,185. Bowl-type scrapers. EUCLID ROAD MACHINERY CO. Dec. 4, 1950 [Jan. 28, 1950], No. 29661/50. Class 68(i) [Also in Group XXXI] In a tractor-drawn scraper bowl the wheels 33 of the bowl are driven by an engine 44 that is so mounted on the framework of the bowl that it extends rearwards of the axle of the wheels 33. The draw-bar assembly of the two or four wheeled tractor is connected by a horizontally extending transverse pivot 24a to a hitch connection 24, 23, 26, 27 which is pivotally secured at 28 to each of the side plates of the bowl. The weight of the engine 44 is such that approximately one fifth of the total weight of the scraper bowl and draw-bar assembly is to the rear of the axle of the wheels 33 and the centre of gravity of the engine acts rearwards of said axle at a distance equal to about 37¢ per cent of the distance between the axle and the centre of gravity of the bowl when loaded, whilst the frame extends about 76¢ per cent of this distance to the rear of the axle. The controls for the tractor engine 40 and the engine 44 are positioned adjacent an operator's seat on the tractor and comprise two tractor engine control pedals 52, 58, one for operation by the right foot and one for operation by the left foot, a trailer engine control pedal 61 sufficiently close to one of the tractor engine control pedals so that the same foot may simultaneously operate both pedals 61 and 58, a throttle 57, 68 for each engine and operative connections from the appropriate pedals to the accelerator of each engine.
