A camera film rewinding device comprises a fixed bush passing through the camera casing, a winding tube rotatable in both directions and axially displaceable within the bush, a key axially displaceable within the winding tube to permit accommodation of cassettes with or without spools, resilient means between the bush and winding tube urging the tube towards the camera interior, and independent resilient means between the tube and the key urging the key towards the camera interior, the tube having a longitudinal slot in which engages a projection on the key whereby the key is prevented from rotating with respect to the tube but is axially displaceable therein. As shown, the rewinding key 20 for engaging the spool is slidably mounted in a tube 19, to which the rewinding knob 17 is secured, and is urged towards the operative position at the inner end of the tube by a spring 23, the key being retained in the tube and held against rotation therein by the head of a screw 24 engaging in a slot 25 in the tube. However, when a spool-less supply cassette, which does not necessitate rewinding of the film, is used, such cassette having no recess to accommodate the key 20 the key is moved axially against its spring 23. The knob 17 and tube 19 may be withdrawn to facilitate insertion and removal of cassettes, the tube 19 being mounted in a bush 18 screwed to the camera body and being urged into the camera by a spring 21, the knob and tube being temporarily latched in the withdrawn position by the enlarged end 22 of the tube engaging with a plate-spring 28 formed by slitting the tube at 26, 27.
