692,146. Drilling-machines. BOCCADORO, F. Nov. 28, 1949 [Nov. 27, 1948], No. 30394/49. Class 83 (iii). Relates to a vertical drilling-machine having a hollow drill-head 10 mounted rotatably on a slide 6 which is supported on the machine column 2, a number of chucks on spindles projecting radially into the head so that gears 14 on the ends of the spindles can mesh in turn with a gear 15 in the head and driven by a motor on the column. According to the invention, the machine is characterized by screws 63, 64 carried by a shaft 61 for limiting the vertical depth of feed of the slide, a bush 53 having a roller 52 to engage a cam slot 51 in the column in order to displace the bush, disengage the gears 14, 15 and withdraw an indexing catch 54 from a recess 55, a spring-loaded ratchet lever 58a so connected through gearing 58, 59, 60 as to index the head 10 near the end of the upstroke of the slide by contact with a projection 57 on the column, and means 56c on the bush 53 to operate a push-button control 56a for the motor which drives the gear 15 through a universally-jointed telescopic rod 66. The slide is balanced by a weight 68 in the standard and arranged above a vertically-adjustable work-table. After indexing, as the head is lowered by a feed-lever, a roller 52 on each side of the bush travels down the portion DC of the respective slot 51 while the ratchet lever 58a is rotated by its spring relative to the gear 58. The portions CB of the slots re-engage the gear 15 with another of the gears 14, locks the head with the catch 54 and releases the button 56a to re-start the motor. A projection 65 is provided on the column 2 to be engaged by the depth-of-feed screws 63, 64.
