Abstract

691,742. Horse velocipedes, vehicle steering-gear. SEBEL, H. June 2, 1950 [May 5, 1950], No. 11217/50. Classes 79 (v), 136 (i), 136 (ii) and 136 (iii) Steering is effected by rocking a member, suspended as a pendulum, about its point of suspension, the member being connected to the wheels and adapted to support the rider. The vehicle, a toy horse, is propelled by transferring the weight of the user from the body 1 to the stirrups 17 connected to the links 5 of linkage 4, 5, 6 and 7 pivoted together and secured by linkage 9 to the body at A. Limbs 5 and 6 are connected by brackets 11 to the legs 2 and 3. The wheels are fitted with pawls 13 to prevent any rearward motion. The stirrups 17 are connected to bent arms 22 having a spacing plate 23 with holes 24 for adjustable connection with a plate 26 pivoted to brackets 28 secured to the link 5. The plate 26 has a projection 30 extending through a slot in a plate 32. The plate 32 is connected to a cross-connection 33 mounted to pivot on a pin 34. The arm 33 is linked with cranks being the upper part of spindles 16, to which the front leg brackets are secured. To steer, pressure is exerted on one stirrup which rocks the plate 26, to cause the extension 30 to rotate the plate 32 and operate the linkage to deflect the wheel.
