Classes 6(i) and 6(iii) [Also in Group XXXII] Relates to agricultural machines, such as tedders mowers, seed-sowers and groundworking implements which are trailed behind tractors. According to the invention, these machines are mounted on wheels, some or all of which are castors the swivelling of the castors being prevented during transport but permitted during normal working. As shown in Fig. 1, the structure 1 is mounted on castors 6, 7 and a fixed wheel 5 and is towed by the tractor 2 through a draught connection 3. In normal use, the castors swivel freely, but for transport, Fig. 2, the structure is towed sideways and the wheels 6, 7 are constrained to rotate in planes parallel to the line of draught, the wheel 5 being transferred to an alternative axle 9. The arrangement may be applied to a framework 20 normally supported on tractor liftlinks through a three-point connection 25, 26, 31. For towing the frame endwise, a further bar 39 is provided and rest-bars 42 may support the opposite end of the frame while the tractor is uncoupled. The position of the upper hitch-point 36 of the three-point support may be adjustable by the lever 33 and quadrant 32 shown in Fig. 15. Additional wheels, either fixed or castor, may be arranged on the frame to stabilize it during transport. The castor-wheel construction is shown in figure 25. The wheel 215 rides in a fork 216 carried by a vertical shaft 218 keyed to a sleeve 219. The sleeve is rotatable in a socket 212 bolted to the machine frame 211. Integral arms 222 and 223 on the sleeve and socket respectively are securable together by a pin 224 to restrain the wheel from castoring. The keyway permits raising and lowering of the wheel by means of a handle 228 voked to the shaft 218. The additional castor-wheels may incorporate spring-mountings to support the frame floatingly, and a modification, Fig. 28 (not shown), is described wherein the frame is suspended by springs from lift-arms on the tractor.
