Abstract
690,894. Thermocouples. GUEST, KEEN & NETTLEFOLDS (CWMBRAN), Ltd. Feb. 13, 1952 [Feb. 16, 1951], No. 3775/51. Class 53. A thermocouple for temperature measurement in a furnace has its hot junction 16 embedded in a brick 12 forming part of the furnace wall. The junction is near the surface of the brick and the dissimilar metals 13, 14 forming the elements of the thermocouple are embedded in the fireclay of the brick before firing and emerge from the face of the brick opposite to that containing the hot junction. If the firing temperature of the brick is above that to. which the elements 13, 14 can be subjected without damage the brick may be provided with passages by means of rods or cores corresponding to the position of the elements and hot junction the rods being removed after firing and replaced by the elements which are secured in positon by a refractory cement.
