[Also in Group XXX] In an egg &c. cleaning machine in which each egg is conveyed longitudinally between revolving brushes 23a and 23b the egg x is rotated and also pressed down and held on a conveyer 16 by the brushes by one or other action as follows: -the brushes may be oppositely rotated : they may be rotated in the same direction, one brush then having more numerous or stronger bristles than the other: the downward moving brush bristles may have a higher rotational speed than the other. The brush axes may be slightly higher than the egg axes. The brushes may dip into a washing liquid tank 40. Such tank may be short to wet only the first part of the brushes or may comprise two short section tanks one for washing liquid and another for rinsing liquid, the unwetted latter part of the brushes acting to dry and polish the eggs. The tank has a removable cover 41. If the brushes operate without a liquid the bristles may be of wire. Each egg rests on a concave central limb 18 of the conveyer and is supported at its sides near its ends between pairs of inwardly curved fingers 20 mounted on outer side limbs 17 of the endless conveyer. The conveyer is driven slowly by worm 29 and toothed disc 30 from one motor driven shaft of the brushes e.g. 24b. Alternatively the conveyer may be made of textile or flexible material with means for preventing sideways rolling off. The eggs x are delivered to a rubber covered shoot 33, Fig 3, and then to a drum 34 with spaced rubber ribs 35 to receive each egg in the spaces. The shoot 33 may be replaced by an endless drying towel.
