[Also in Group XVII] A detachable handle for cooking utensils comprises a pair of hinged jaws adapted to grip a flange or lug provided on the rim of the utensil, each jaw being carried by a hand-grip and one jaw or hand-grip having a part to engage frictionally with a part of the other jaw or handgrip in order to hold both jaws in gripping position. As shown in Fig. 1 the main handgrip 1 comprises a length of stiff metal wire bent to U-shape and having secured to the ends of the arms a metal plate 2 'provided with depending and forwardly projecting ears 3 adapted to bear on the side wall of the utensil 4. The secondary hand-grip 5 comprises a length of stiff metal wire bent to form a narrower and shorter U than that of the hand-grip 1, the ends of the arms being bent outwardly to pivotally engage in holes in the ears 3. A jaw plate 7 secured to the ends of the arms of the handgrip 5, is bent upwardly and rearwardly at the forward edge to' form a resilient gripping surface 8 lying between the ears. The jaws are held in gripping position by an upwardly extending tongue 9 provided on the rear edge of the jaw 7 which frictionally engages with a downwardly extending tongue 10 on the jaw plate 2. In a modification, Fig. 5, the secondary hand-grip comprises a length of wire, the end portion of which engages in holes in the ears 3, the part of the wire lying between the ears being cranked to form a jaw 12. The remaining portion of the wire is bent as shown, the end 17 forming a stem which extends centrally of the arms of the handgrip 1. An upwardly bent part 16 is curved to allow frictional engagement with the tongue 10.
