[Also in Group X] A laminated panel comprises an outer cover layer 34a and 34b, Fig. 4, a foundation 28, and an intermediate padding layer 32, the padding and cover layers being compacted against the foundation at selected regions, e.g. strips 42, 46, to provide the depressed areas, which are additionally formed with closely spaced indentations at which the cover and padding are additionally compacted. The layers are adhesively bonded together at the depressed and compacted areas, which are formed by knurled or closely ridged embossing ribs 52 and 56, Fig. 3, projecting from an upper platen 38 which co-operates with a power platen 36 to unite the layers. A panel for a motor car interior may have an upper portion 20, Fig. 1, in which the covering layer 34a is of cloth or vinyl resin sheeting, and a lower portion 22 covered with durable material 34b such as vinyl resin sheeting, carpeting, imitation leather, or fabric. A groove 46 formed at the join of the two coverings, and a second groove 44 in the covering 34a, are frilled by ornamental mouldings, e.g. of bright metal. The padding may be of cotton batting, or a, number of superposed layers of crepe paper. The foundation 28 may be fibre board which may be impregnated with resin or asphalt, may be a heavy fabric, or may be a metal panel e.g. a vehicle door. The bonding adhesive may be a phenol- or urea-formaldehyde resin applied to one of the component layers or to a fabric 30, Fig. 4, placed between the padding and foundation. Alternatively, when vinyl resin sheet is used as the covering layer, the adhesive may be a vinyl resin solution applied to the vinyl resin sheet or a mixture of phenol-aldehyde and vinyl resins applied to the fabric 30.
