687,813. Draughting machines. BELL, L. H. BAINBRIDGE-. Nov. 14, 1951 [March 9, 1951; March 9, 1951], No. 5798/51 and 5799/51. Class 97 (iii). A draughting apparatus comprises a rigid straight rail 2 secured to a drawing board 1 such as by U-shaped brackets 3 straddling the top edge of the board and fixed by clamping screws, riders 5, 6, 12, slidable along the rail and one or more linkages pivoted to the riders such as links 8a, 9a and 8b, 9b, each having a common pivot E, and E<SP>1</SP> equidistant from a pivot C, D, or C, D<SP>1</SP>, of each link to the respective rider 5, 6 or 5, 12, links 9a, 9b carrying a drawing instrument at points F, F<SP>1</SP>, where EF=DE and F<SP>1</SP>E<SP>1</SP>=D<SP>1</SP>E<SP>1</SP>. A carrier link 13 which is pivoted at its ends FF<SP>1</SP> to links 9a, 9b, carries a rule 14, or other drawing instrument, pivoted to the link at X and there provided with a clamping screw 15, the linkage system ensuring that link 13 is always perpendicular to rail 2 and hence rule 14 always moves parallel to itself over the drawing board 1. In a modification rider 12 and links 8b, 9b and 13 are dispensed with, rider 5 having a clamping screw to allow point F which carries a drawing pencil to move perpendicular to the rail 2 and means for clamping the two links at any relative angle so that on sliding the riders 5, 6, along the rail the point F moves parallel thereto. The riders may have the form of trolleys, split sleeves, or captive shoes.
