Class 89 (i) An anchor nut comprises an assembly of a nut and a retainer, inseparable axially but relatively rotatable, so that in one position the nut may be passed through an aperture in a plate &c. and then be turned relatively to the retainer to a position in which the nut spans the aperture on side one and the retainer on the other. A rectangular nut has a flange 26, Fig. 4 that is passed through a slot 28 in a sheet metal retainer and riveted over at 32, the slot permitting rotation and limited float. The retainer. is bowed at 30, flanged at 34 to engage a rectangular hole in a plate &c. 40, the flanges having lugs 36 that bear against the surface of the plate. The nut is passed through the hole in the plate and rotated through ninety degrees, the ribs 42 then bearing on the plate on opposite sides of the slot and the bowed part of the retainer entering the slot and also in between the ribs preventing further relative movement. When the nut is tightened the resilience of the retainer causes it to act as a friction lock washer. The corners of the ribs are bevelled at 52 to facilitate camming down the bowed part of the retainer should it be required to remove the nut. In modifications the flanges 34 of the retainer are replaced, in one form, by slit and bent up fingers and in another by ribs or beads. In other modifications fingers 42c, Fig. 12 are cut from the centre of the flanged part of the retainer and have their ends upturned oppositely to the flanges. In the assembly position these ends bear on the ribs 42 and in the anchored position they engage the ribs of the nut. In a further form a conical flange round the bolt hole of the container is retained in a groove in the nut, dimples 54, Fig. 15, maintain the nut and retainer in the assembly position whilst resilient fingers 42c lock the nut in the anchored position.
