Abstract

686,011. Actuation of switches. McCLEMENTS, A., and WIGDORTCHIK, L. S. March 15, 1951 [Feb. 9, 1950], No. 3348/50. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XXXVIII] In a visual landing aid for aircraft (see Group XXXVIII) a pattern of lights is automatically controlled to indicate wind direction by means of a wind-vane-operated switch. The various lamps are connected by lines p or q to fixed contacts l or m arranged in a similar layout to that of the lamps and fed by a line f via a rotatable contact member T-shaped according to the required pattern, viz., two concentric circles with a super-posed T showing wind direction-the circles being broken where the leg of the T passes therethrough (Fig. 17). Single-pole wiring is shown for simplicity and the rotatable contact T is mounted on a verticle spindle S at the top of which is mounted a wind-vane W (Fig. 18). A casing X encloses the switch and rotatably supports the spindle S. Specification 648,645, [Group XXXVIII], is referred to.
