Abstract

<PICT:0685314/III/1> <PICT:0685314/III/2> <PICT:0685314/III/3> An apparatus for coating a series of fastening elements of slide fasteners while the elements are on their flexible strips comprises a rotatable drum having a peripheral groove to locate the elements, a spraying station for spray coating the elements as they rotate past the station on the drum, masking means to shield the flexible strips as they pass through the spraying station and means to actuate the spray device automatically according to the presence or absence of elements passing through the spraying station. Referring to the drawings drum 10 has in its periphery central channel 16 dimensioned to take the elements B and outer channels taking the flexible strips C covered by metal strips 20 with projections 22 to facilitate feeding in the elements. In operation, the elements are fed in at 22 and as they pass arm 45 they move it, thus operating electromagnet 40 and so opening spray valve 36. Absence of an element thus closes the spray valve. Spray hood 28 is so shaped, Fig. 4, as to allow only the elements B to be exposed to the spray.
