Abstract

685,097. Washing cans. POSTMA, S. S., FEENSTRA, B., and HEEJDE, B. VAN DER, (trading as MACHINEFABRIEK POSTMA EN FEENSTRA). March 28, 1951 [March 30, 1950], No. 7210/51. Class 138 (i). A machine for washing cans comprises a spraying apparatus and a conveying device for successively placing a plurality of cans above the spraying apparatus wherein the spraying apparatus is operated by means of the tilting motion of a can in a direction normal to its direction of transport. The machine comprises a frame.1 having two stationary supporting rails 2. A number of supporting members 3 for cans are rigidly secured to one rail 2 while the other rail 2 is provided with corresponding supporting arms 4 for the cans the free ends of the arms 4 being bifurcated. The cans are conveyed stepwise through the machine by means of.a device 5 capable of vertical movement as well as movement longitudinally of the machine. Fig. 1 shows a can which has been lowered on to supports 3 and 4 in readiness for spraying whilst Fig. 2 shows the can being conveyed to a position above the supports 3 and 4 and prior to lowering the can thereon. When the can is at rest as shown in Fig. 1 an arm 6 is oscillated. The arm tilts the can to the position shown in Fig. 3, the can then contacting a lever 7 to move the same and cause a valve 8 for a spray tube 9 to be opened. It may be arranged that displacement of the lever 7 also causes the spray tube 9 to be raised so that its nozzle 10 is introduced into the can. As the cans are moved through the apparatus to the successive supports 3 they will be continuously submitted to a fresh spraying treatment.
