Abstract

684,777. Drawing textile fibres; stop motions. HARBECK, M., HARBECK, M., STEFFEN, H., and STEFFEN, E. Feb. 22, 1950 [Jan. 16, 1950], No. 4495/50. Classes 120(i) and 120(ii) [Also in Group XXIV] A spinning machine for bast or long leaf fibres, particularly jute, provided with feed and delivery rollers and an automatic stopping device operative upon yarn breakage has the stopping device arranged to interrupt the driving connection between a driving shaft and a driven feed roller, the feed roller being in driving connection with guiding and supporting means located between the feed and delivery rollers. It is stated that drafts of 50 are possible and that only two prior drawing operations are necessary. When a thread breaks, a feeler 19 swings forward permitting a locking pawl 16 to pivot into the path of projections 12 on a detent ring 3, thereby preventing rotation of the ring and, through a clutch, (see Group XXIV), stopping the driven feed roller 4 and its associated pressure roller 22. By means of a spur gear on the feed roller 4, drive is normally transmitted to aprons 28, 29 through spur gears associated with rollers 33, 36. A pressure-applying device held in contact with the belt 29 comprises a shoe 39 pivotally mounted on a pin 41 and adjustable through a lever 42 connected to a handle 48, which may be common to a number of spinning heads. The angle between the line of entry of the fibres and a line extending between the axes of rollers 33, 36 is less than 90 degrees. Between the aprons 28, 29 and delivery rollers 26, 27, a delivery guide 45 is pivotally mounted on a spindle 46 and provided with shields 8 to protect operatives' fingers when threading up. The delivery guide 45, a sliver guide 47 and the shoe 39 may be made from a thermoplastic substance or a synthetic resin by injection moulding. Instead of the belt drawing device, gill bars may be provided individual to each spinning position, the movement of the bars ceasing on thread breakage.
