Abstract

The filtering means for adsorption of impurities from solutions or liquids such as sugar syrups and organic liquids, e.g. oils, and which consists of a granular inert material such as pitch coke or petroleum coke coated with a powdered adsorbent such as diatomaceous earth, adsorbent clays or activated carbon or a mixture of any of these, is reactivated by heating the filtering means with agitation in the presence of oxygen, e.g. as oxygen gas, oxygenized air or air, to a temperature of preferably from 425 DEG C to 550 DEG C at which the impurities adsorbed or retained by the means during the filtering treatment of the liquids are burned. The weight of the granular inert material is preferably not less than 35 pounds per cubic foot.ALSO:The filtering means for adsorption of impurities from solutions or liquids such as sugar syrups and organic liquids e.g. oils, and which consists of a granular inert material such as pitch coke or petroleum coke coated with a powdered adsorbent such as diatomaceous earth, adsorbent clays or activated carbon or a mixture of any of these, is reactivated by heating the filtering means with agitation in the presence of oxygen, e.g. as oxygen gas, oxygenised air or air, to a temperature of preferably 425 DEG C. to 550 DEG C. at which the impurities adsorbed or retained by the means during the filtering treatment of the liquids are burned.
