Abstract

683,421. Cutting cake &c. RAPER, W. May 1, 1951 [April 21, 1950], No. 9807/50. Class 5(i) [Also in Group V] A slab of material to be cut is' placed on a series of bent sheet-metal. members 5 having flanges 5a to support the slab against lateral movement. A cutting frame pivoted at 7 is then moved down by hand or power to cause tensioned wires 12 to cut the slab. Each wire engages in a slot 5b between the members 5. Stops. 15 limit the movement of the cutting frame. Each wire 12 is fastened at one end to a member 9a, passes under the corresponding member 9, and is fixed at its other end to a screwthreaded'tensioning stud 13 on a member 11. In a modification, the several wires may be replaced by a single wire arrangedin zig-zag fashion, and ending at a tensioning screw. The apparatus may be mounted' on rubber feet.
