Abstract

683,003. Pipe couplings. JACOBI, G., and KONEMANN. A. Sept. 19. 1950 [Sept. 19, 1949], No. 22931/50. Class 99 (i). In a coupling for hydraulic pressure pipes, e.g. for connecting the oil pressure brake pipe of a motor vehicle to that of its trailer, comprising coupling members 3, 15 each having a spring- loaded check valve 10, 20 adapted to hold each other open when the connection is closed whilst shutting on disconnection of the coupling. the member 3 is so arranged within a casing 1 containing a sealing liquid that its check valve is disposed below the level of such liquid. On connection of the coupling the member 15 is fitted inside a guide sleeve 4 screwed on to the member 3 and having holes 6 connecting its interior to the liquid in the casing 1, a rod 13 carried by the valve 10 forcing the valves 10, 20 off their seats. A cap 22, carried by the member 15, is fastened to the sleeve 4 by a bayonet joint, a spring catch 25 preventing rotation thereof after fastening. A washer 39 forms a fluid-tight packing between the members 3, 15 and the opening and closing of the valves 10, 20 on connection and disconnection of the coupling takes place within the liquid contained in the casing 1, whereby leakage of air into the system is prevented. The device is preferably fixed to the motor vehicle in the inclined position shown by means of a flange 2.
