Abstract
682,849. Wire strainers. HALL, Sir M. J., and FLIND, H. C. Jan. 8, 1951 [Jan. 10. 1950]. No. 620/50. Class 45 Means for tensioning a flexible connection 3 fixed at its ends comprises an appliance adapted to be applied to the connection intermediate its ends and which is rotated to cause a loop to be formed and an anchoring device separable from the appliance for maintaining the loop after it has been formed by the appliance. The anchoring devices 6 consist of ring-like structures conforming more or less in shape to the section of the body of the appliance to which they are applied and having oppositely inwardly directed lugs 7 positioned to restrain lateral movement of the loop wound thereon. The appliance has a hooked end to engage the flexible connection 3 and is rotated to cause the connection 3 to travel up a helical groove 4 of increasing radius to be wound in a loop around the anchoring device 6. The lugs on the device 6 are then bent on to the connection to keep the loop in place on the device and the appliance is removed from the device 6. The anchoring device 6 is of oval cross-section and engages a part 1 of similar cross-section on the appliance to prevent relative rotation. In a modification the appliance and the device 6 are rectangular in cross-section and grooves are provided in the short walls to move the connection from the hook to the device 6 when the tool is rotated.
