Abstract

682,725. Ferrules; bridles; paint brushes. LENG, A. S. Dec. 14, 1950 [Aug. 14, 1950], No. 20109./50. Class 19. A ferrule for a paint brush, of the kind in which a flat bunch of bristles the width of which is substantially greater than the thickness is secured at one end in a sheet metal ferrule attached to a handle and in which the whole of the face end of the bristles is inclined transversely of the axis of the handle, has its forward side edges each shaped to form.two parts, one of which extends over about one third of the width of the brush and is at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the ferrule, and the other part is inclined and wholly straight or consists of a curved portion terminating in another straight part at right angles to the said axis of the ferrule. Fig. 1 shows the ferrule a with part of the forward edge d at right angles to the axis and the remainder c inclined thereto while Fig. 5 shows the ferrule provided with one third of the forward edge d at right angles to the axis, a curved mid-portion c and another straight portion d. The two forward edges of the ferrule may each have a reinforcement e adjacent thereto. The side faces of the ferrule may be parallel or mutually inclined (see Fig. 4). The shaped forward edges of the ferrule serve to support the bristles in use.
